Chattanooga firefighters help rescue injured hiker

A man injured his ankle while on a hike on Glen Falls trail Monday evening.

Chattanooga firefighters helped the 65-year-old hiker who was about a half mile deep on the trail when he injured himself and couldn’t walk back out on his own, according to a news release.

Emergency personnel found the man and placed him in a Stokes Basket and carried him part of the way until they could transfer him into an off-road rescue vehicle to take him to the trailhead. He was then taken to a local hospital for treatment.

Lookout Mountain police and the National Park Service on Lookout Mountain also provided assistance.
