Volkswagen is expected on Wednesday to show a surprise concept of a midsize pickup truck that could be assembled in Chattanooga if the automaker decides to enter the segment in the U.S., according to a media outlet in Germany
Automotive News, citing unnamed sources, said the pickup could be a derivative of the Chattanooga-made Atlas SUV. The concept is expected to be shown at the New York International Auto Show.
Already at the show, a concept version of a five-seat SUV based on the Atlas is slated to be displayed for the first time. That vehicle will be made alongside the seven-seat Atlas in Chattanooga, VW officials said last week.
If the pickup concept receives positive reviews during the New York show, it could go into production relatively soon and would be built at the Tennessee assembly plant, Automotive News reported.
